4 Leisure Activities for Aging Adults in Redondo Beach

Redondo Beach elder care professionals believe older adults should make time in their lives for leisure activities. Depending on a senior’s interests, these activities have the potential to boost his or her overall health. Seniors in Redondo Beach, CA, will likely find the following 4 top-rated local activities exciting and appealing.

1. Playing Bingo

The Perry Park Senior Center at 2308 Rockefeller Lane hosts bingo games every Monday and Friday from 1:30pm to 5pm. As seniors scan their cards for matching numbers, they will get the chance to socialize and win exciting prizes. Not only is bingo a fun game for seniors to play, but it’s also a wonderful activity for boosting their concentration skills and brain fitness.

2. Writing

The Redondo Beach Public Library at 303 North Pacific Coast Highway hosts a local writers group on the first Saturday of each month from 10:30am to noon that would be ideal for older adults. Seniors who are passionate about writing can join this group and have the chance to gather with other like-minded individuals in a welcoming setting that can help them get motivated and productive. They will also have the opportunity to share their expertise, learn, and keep their minds sharp while exploring new topics and fueling their own creativity.

3. Country Western Line Dancing

The Veterans Park Senior Center at 301 Esplanade Avenue is offering line dancing classes on Tuesdays from 9:30am to 11am. In this class, seniors will get the opportunity to meet new acquaintances while learning a variety of exciting dance steps. This style of dancing gives seniors a full body workout. Admission is $2 per class.

4. Exploring the Sea Lab

This hands-on science center at 1021 North Harbor Drive is open Tuesdays through Saturdays. At this fascinating facility, seniors can learn about the importance of conserving water and protecting the oceans and marine life. They will also have the chance to enjoy and experience touch tanks by themselves or with a guided tour, where they can explore a tide pool tank and a native plant greenhouse. Also, every Saturday at noon the Sea Lab gives visitors the opportunity to feed the fish in the tide pool tank. Food costs $2 per tray.
