Michelle Westbrook, OwnerMichelle Westbrook – Owner Michelle, owner of Home Care Assistance Redondo Beach is a VP of Business Development for Vestagen Technical Textiles, a leader in helping to fight hospital acquired infections, which take over a hundred thousand lives each year.

Michelle’s Father passed away from a hospital acquired infection (MRSA), after spending a lifetime fighting for his country as an Airborne Colonel in the Army, and over a decade battling Parkinson’s Disease. Michelle knew joining Vestagen was her calling after she looked to try and “make a difference” after selling and servicing to the healthcare market for over twenty-five years with Cintas Corporation. The senior population is often hit the hardest by these infections. This is because their immune systems can be weakened while in hospitals or other non-acute facilities (for example nursing homes, skilled care or assisted living) and they are exposedto a large number of individuals (nurses, other patients or residents).

Over the last decade plus, Michelle’s Father needed personal care assistance, and her Mom was the primary caregiver. This took a toll on her Mother not only physically but emotionally, and the family dynamics changed from Michelle’s Mom being foremost her husbands’ bride and the mother of six grown children, to her husband’s caregiver.

Michelle’s Mom grew tired mentally and physically and when her Father went into an Assisted Living Facility, she opted to stay in her home. Had Michelle and her siblings known at the time that nine out of ten seniors prefer to stay in their homes, and about Home Care Assistance’s unique approach that provides quality care that enables older adults to live happier, healthier lives at home, the latter years of their parents’ lives could have been more enriched and they would have been able to stay together.

Michelle is the mother of two sons, Shane and Kyle and one daughter, Nicole who is beginning her freshman year at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach. When Michelle’s husband Steve, and son Shane approached her about their desire to run a Home Care Assistance location in Redondo Beach, she was thrilled that her family shared her passion to offer a new alternative to seniors like her parents. She knew that her husband and son would truly make a difference to families throughout the South Bay and would help to “Change the Way the World Ages” one life at a time.

In 3+ years at Nexo, he was instrumental in expanding the CFRRG to insure over 25% of the total market share and triple in gross revenue.

He also has international business experience having lived and worked in Cairo, Egypt for Marinetech, an established agency in the Middle East’s offshore oil industry representing companies from all over the world. Shane plied his trade as a shipbroker specializing in the marketing, sale, and rental of commercial vessels operating in the Mediterranean Sea, Persian Gulf, and Red Sea. It was during this period abroad that he began to realize his innate skills of connecting with humans from multiple backgrounds and ethnicities, and developed a passion for creating a positive difference in individuals’ lives through a variety of social platforms, becoming fluent in Arabic along the way. As an ex-college and professional soccer player, coaching his lifetime sport became an avenue to give back to the local community in Cairo as he joined Africa’s most prestigious private high school’s Varsity team as a volunteer assistant, Cairo American College. This eventually led him to being an ambassador for underprivileged Egyptian high school players aiming to get recruited by universities’ soccer programs in the United States. Shane returned to the U.S. with a hunger to touch the lives of those in need.

HCA has given him the opportunity to do so with the Senior community, which is close to his heart having experienced his late Grandfather’s struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Shane received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science (concentration in International Studies) from the University of California, Irvine. He continues to coach competitively in his local community for The LA Galaxy South Bay Soccer Club, and is a director of Elite International Soccer, an Egyptian organization hosting camps and clinics in the Middle East with the continued aim of helping players earn athletic college scholarships in the U.S. Shane is also pursuing a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University.
